Zilog is very excited now as a part of the IXYS Corporation, which was a deliberate strategic move to join a world class organization that extends Zilog's ability to grow and continue to provide world class services in several established and emerging markets.

This combination expands Zilog into new areas with an even broader impact in providing both our core micro controller business that been used in many products over the years.

Rest assured Zilog is not going away, but will continue to be present and available to support the loyal customers that have stuck with us over the years through thick and thin.

Much focus is now based on energy management applications and adding more types of software differentiation that help make the products useful in energy saving applications. Working with IXYS and thier expertise on power management, we expect to continue bring new improvements and products to market.

Voicing your thoughts here is one of the ways we have decide to reach out and listen to our customers, what they like, what they want, even at times whats not working. This way we can learn and improve!

Steve the last time Zilog introduced a new microcontroller - not an existing die in a new package, but a brand new die - was maybe five years ago.

I just saw this and Slide 5 depressed me and made me think of Zilog:
microcontroller.com/Modern_Microcontroller_Market_Part_2.htm

All PR speak aside, my boss has told me for 2011 no new designs with Zilog for our clients. Your competition has left puddles of drool at our door.

Steve I'm disheartened by the fact that you misspelled it "micro controller"

PLEASE on please, can we see some real microcontroller marketing and a real product roadmap very very very soon? I'm a rabid fan but I feel that my love for Zilog is unrequited.

Actually, there is another side to this, Builder. Once you get a product design running 100%, you really want to see the MCU that you're using to never change, and keep it available virtually forever. That means it is a good, long-lived design. Think "555" philosophy. The distributors really don't care about new part numbers as long as the old parts are selling well - it profit that matters. Once a design is deployed in the field, the cost of changing everything can grow exponentially. especially if you are looking at supplying spare parts for 10 to 25 years - which can happen in an industrial / commercial environment. Retail consumer gadgets change every week, and that is a different market.

I know what you're saying though. It would be kind of cool to pick up a copy of something like Circuit Cellar and see a new project using a Zilog chip.

I like your slide. I think this could be true of most products. However, as John stated, there is the other side, which is the stability and longevity of products. We constantly work at trying to find the happy medium between the two.

We released the new ZMotion product for motion sensing and control last quarter. We have two new products launching this month. We also released the beta version of the ZDSII for Encore 5.0 last quarter with the final being released this quarter. We are working on a new MCU for the XP family, addressing areas such as more memory, USB and low power.

Thanks for you candor and support
