Soanar was running a clearance sale since 2011 to get rid of a lot of their semiconductor stock. I got some Z8F parts, an evaluation kit and some AVRs for ridiculous prices. Now, searching for Zilog on their site returns zero. Not sure what is going on with Zilog and their supply chain when places like RS have less and less of what should be easily available. As for the new part I thought it was still being developed.

Yes it's strange, looks as if everyone is bailing out of Zilog. There's something going on here.
Checked Digikey for Z8F0822 in SO-28 today, another one of my standards. Nil stock.
This isn't filling me with confidence about the future of Zilog. How can your product disappear from the shelves and you don't explain anything? I guess if it was a Maxim part this might be a normal event, though!

It would be great if someone from Zilog could jump in here and tell me that all will be well, and explain these issues.

This is a key part for a couple projects for us as well. I plan to have someone contact Zilog.

Sounds like it may solve long term supply issues ?

However, it leads to the obvious questions of

a) Is the 64pin LQFP F6482 pin compatible with the LQFP64 Z8F6422 ?

b) What is the release schedule for the F6482 ?

Z8F6422 is supposed to be a mature part but it is almost out of stock. Everywhere.
Would you have more faith in availability of a new micro from Zilog?
Not sure I would, even if it was pin compatible. If it was pin compatible, wouldn't that make it a Z8F6422?

Anyway, Zilog have contacted me and are trying to help out but that doesn't address the underlying issue here.
How does a major supplier end up with maybe less than 100 stock worldwide? I'm guessing, sorry.
