Problem with using ZDSII under Win7 1 Year, 6 Months ago

Hello,
I am currently using ZDSII v4.10.1 for eZ80 Acclaim series and have ported my applications to a new Win7 computer at work. I observed some behavioral differences in the way certain files were created between my WinXP box and the new Win7 box. I wish to avoid retooling to latest version of compiler etc. if possible because that will require a revalidation/ regression test of our shipping embedded applications. However I may have no choice.
I opened a support ticket with Zilog to quiz them about this and was informed that ZDSII v4.10.1 is not recommended for use on Win7 platform. As such, there is no guarantee that this version will run as expected on a Win7 platform. Given your situation, I would recommend that you use WinXP instead. .
Questions to anyone here are:
1. Are ANY of the ZDSII versions for Acclaim compatible with Win7?
2. Has anyone else had successes/ failures trying this?
I am also awaiting a response to this question on my support ticket. Repeated here for benefit of all and perhaps a 2nd opinion.
Thanks in advance.

FYI to anyone reading... reply from Zilog
Hi Steve, Unfortunately, we do not have current release of ZDSII Acclaim that is supported under Win7. But we have an ongoing project for this. We do not know yet when will this be released. Best Regards, ZiLOG customer tech support
Thank you Zilog for your prompt and honest answer. Decision time...

I am using ZDSII 5.0.0 and 5.1.1 successfully on Vista 64 running in parallels on a MacBook Pro. I have also run 5.0.0 on vista 64 with boot camp on a MacBook Pro. I also run ZDSII Z8 4.11.0 on vista 64

The ZDSII for the Acclaim, version 5.2 will support Windows 7 and is currently in Beta. The target release is first quarter, 2012.
My main system I work on is Windows 7, so I do use ZDS2 4.xx for the Encore and Acclaim on Windows 7. I do see some occasional interesting behaviors (which is one of the reasons it is not supported), although most of it seems to work (with the 64bit USB driver). I have not reviewed the differences between output between XP and Windows 7, so I have no idea what compilations are different. For production, I would never use anything that is not supported on the system I am using (including Operating System). Bottom line – If you want support on Windows 7, you will need to upgrade to 5.2.

Thanks Tom,
You've actually provided a little more detail than I received on the Support Ticket regarding tentative release dates. Helps me plan things a little.
You mentioned a 64-bit USB driver. I've been using (until now) Smart Flash Progrmmer 2.2 with USB Smart Cable. I just discovered that Win7 doesn't recognize the USB Smart Cable and I can't seem to find a Win7 driver for it. Is that the 64-bit USB driver to which you refer?
What are my options for programming parts under Win7 now? Is my existing Smartcable obsolete? Thanks again!

The smart cable is not obsolete. The ZDSII tools include the USB 64bit Smart Cable drivers, in the Device DriversUSBx64 folder. This is the device driver to use for Window 7, 64 bit. If you are using 32bit Windows 7, you would use the x32 folder.
